TEACHING ARTIST, CELLO Brookline Music School (BMS) seeks a Teaching Artist in Cello to potentially begin as soon as May 2018, and to continue into the Summer Session, the 2018-2019 school year, and forward. This position primarily entails maintaining a private lesson studio, but may include the opportunity to coach chamber music ensembles or to propose and teach group classes relevant to young string players. Private cello students at BMS typically range in age from six years to adult, though students may begin Suzuki lessons as young as 4 or 5 with Suzuki-certified instructors. Teaching takes place at Kennard House, our main location, with additional instruction in the Brookline Public Schools. QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will have a proven record teaching a range of ages and levels, and will be passionate about growing a studio through solid pedagogy, diligent lesson planning, and encouraging students toward performance opportunities and musical experiences beyond private lessons. Enthusiasm for student chamber music highly valued. New faculty teaching schedules range from 2-4 weekly teaching days of approximately 5 hours each during the school year. BMS seeks a minimum 2-year commitment to the faculty. Late-week and weekend availability is an asset. Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential to representing the school to our students and their families. An undergraduate degree in cello performance is required; a graduate degree or the equivalent—demonstrated through teaching and performing experience is preferred.
