TEACHING ARTIST, GROUP & PRIVATE PIANO Brookline Music School (BMS) seeks a Teaching Artist in Piano for Fall 2018. This position entails teaching a mix of private lessons and small-group classes (maximum of 4 students per group). Students in group classes begin at 4 years of age. Students in private lessons range from age 6 to adult. The position may also include recital accompanying responsibilities and the opportunity to coach youth and adult chamber music groups. Teaching takes place at Kennard House, our main location, with additional instruction in the Public Schools of Brookline. QUALIFICATIONS Brookline Music School seeks an individual with a proven record of teaching a range of ages, and who is passionate and committed to growing a studio of group classes and private students through solid pedagogy and excellent parent/student communication. An undergraduate performance degree in piano is required, an additional graduate performance degree preferred. Group Piano Classes (ages 4 and up) at BMS follow the Music Moves for Piano curriculum, rooted in Edwin Gordon’s Music Learning Theory. Familiarity with this curriculum and with the core principles of Music Learning Theory is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will be able to commit 2-4 teaching days of approximately 5 hours each, and seeking to commit to a minimum of 2 years on the faculty. Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential to represent the school to our students and their families.
