Indian Hill Music School Faculty Opening - Band Instructor at McKay Arts Academy, Fitchburg Indian Hill Music School, a community music school in Littleton, MA with a faculty of 60+ professional teaching artists, has an opening in the fall for a Band Teacher ?to lead our outreach program at McKay Arts Academy in Fitchburg two days per week from 8:00am-12:15pm. The program will serve approximately 25 5th grade beginner students on one day and an additional 25 6th grade second-year students on the other. The schedule each day will include a 45-minute full band rehearsal at 8am (beginning in September for the sixth graders and in January for the fifth graders), followed by six half-hour sectionals for trumpet, trombone, saxophone, clarinet, flute, and percussion, respectively. The program will add one subsequent grade each year until the program is 5th-8th grade. One day of instruction will continue to be for fifth grade beginners only, while the other day will be for 6th-8th grade continuing students. Indian Hill Music faculty members are responsible for: 1) inspiring and sharing their love of music with their students; 2) setting a high bar for students’ levels of technical skill and musicality; 3) clearly communicating expectations and working toward shared goals; and 4) advocating for their students to engage in additional IHM programs to deepen their musical development and their commitment to their studies. Ideal candidates should have a degree in music and a minimum of three years of teaching experience, and must be comfortable working with beginner students of middle school age in an urban public school setting. Regular weekly teaching throughout the school year is required, as is attendance at an annual faculty meeting and the completion of occasional clerical tasks.
