Beaver Country Day School—an independent day school located just outside of Boston, serving grades 6-12—seeks a creative, innovative, and forward-thinking Middle School Woodwind Teaching Artist. This position includes teaching three group beginner/intermediate woodwind (flute, clarinet) classes weekly (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 10:55-11:40). Additional responsibilities of this part-time position include communicating regularly with parents and students about progress, producing three music exhibits per year, and meeting weekly with the music faculty. There may be an opportunity to teach a middle school afternoon instrumental ensemble (M-F 2:20-3:40) depending on the candidate’s qualifications and availability. This position is part of a team including choral, percussion, brass, and string teachers who collaborate to develop a shared curriculum, pedagogy, and culture for the instrumental music program. Competitive candidates should demonstrate expertise in more than one woodwind instrument, excellent musicianship and artistry as a performer and teacher, knowledge of woodwind repertoire, curriculum, and pedagogy, and experience teaching young, beginner students in a group setting. Strong classroom management skills, the ability to connect with the middle school students, and the ability to differentiate instruction based on the skill level and learning styles of the students is essential to this role.
