POSITION SUMMARY: This full-time music teaching position will have ongoing contact with and direct responsibility for the
academic and social life of students on campus (in loco parentis), and will involve specific responsibilities that include afternoon program involvement, possible residential life duty, and student advising. The successful candidate will be deeply invested in a student-centered and process-intensive approach to music pedagogy, will have enthusiasm and appreciation for working with adolescents of a wide range of arts experience, and will desire to take imaginative risks and to innovate in their artistic work and teaching. With Teaching Faculty status comes the expectation of total involvement in the lives of students on campus. The Director of Choral Music also contributes to the musical life of the campus through various means inside and outside the classroom. Housing may or may not be available.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Full time teaching assignments (4 classes) in the Arts Department (Two classes are choral ensembles (both mixed; one is auditioned, one is not) and two classes are to be determined in collaboration with the Arts Department Chair and Academic Office based on program needs and teacher interest and experience.); Afternoon program assignments (2 seasons); Dorm parenting or equivalent, depending on housing status; Advising; Weekend chaperone duties. Must show a demonstrated interest, through teaching practices and/or professional development experiences, in creating equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist spaces and pursuing social justice equity, diversity, and inclusion work through the arts.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Undergraduate degree in music or music education; experience conducting choral groups; experience teaching in an secondary school or college setting; commitment to working in a diverse community; experience working and communicating with diverse populations; commitment to working with young people in a boarding school environment; valid driver’s license; successful completion of a CORI/SORI and fingerprinting check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate degree in music, education, or music education; knowledge of independent schools; experience in boarding schools; experience coaching and/or playing interscholastic athletics; facility with music production/digital music; experience in theater or acting.
