Founded in 1922, Concord Academy has long balanced high academic standards with a focus on educating the whole student through academics, the arts, athletics, and cultural opportunities. Self-expression, storytelling, and careful listening are hallmarks of the Concord Academy experience. We actively seek applicants who reflect and support our mission-driven commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse and equitable school community. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong desire to incorporate inclusive teaching practices and advance the tenets of the school's mission. Mission Statement: We are a community animated by love of learning, diverse and striving for equity, with common trust as our foundation. Honoring each individual, we challenge and expand our understanding of ourselves and the world through purposeful collaboration and creative engagement. We cultivate empathy, integrity, and responsibility to build a more just and sustainable future. Responsibilities: The school seeks a half-time faculty member to run its chamber music and individual music lesson programs for students in grades 9–12. As chamber music coordinator, this individual places 40–45 student instrumentalists into small groups based on ability level, selects appropriate repertoire, and manages a team of 4–5 adjunct faculty chamber coaches. This faculty member coaches 2–3 ensembles, including the Chameleon Chamber Players, the school’s premier chamber group. Additionally, this position identifies and interfaces with the school’s annual Composer in Residence. The school employs 15–18 adjunct music instructors who teach over 150 private lessons to students each week. The program coordinator is responsible for scheduling all lessons based on mutual availability between the student and instructor, and is the primary communication liaison with the adjunct faculty for all institutional and instruction-related information. For interested candidates, the position may also include providing individual music instruction on an instrument for additional compensation. Qualifications: The successful candidate will be an innovative educator with great enthusiasm for working with adolescents and appreciation for collaborating with colleagues. Applicants should have strong organizational, technological, and managerial skills in addition to experience coaching and performing instrumental music and a broad knowledge of repertoire suitable for high school musicians at a variety of skill levels. Candidates with additional interest in or experience teaching classroom music electives such as theory, history, and technology are especially encouraged to apply. The school provides a competitive benefits package and salary is commensurate with experience. All faculty members at Concord Academy participate fully in the life of the school; responsibilities include advising, serving on committees and/or clubs, and periodically providing an adult presence at school events. Coaching an athletic team is welcomed but not required and is remunerated separately. On-campus housing may be available, but it is limited, and faculty members are not required to live at the school. Candidates must successfully complete a criminal background check. In order to promote health in our school community, employees are required to be fully immunized against COVID-19 upon employment, unless a medical or religious exemption applies.
