Newton Community Education is seeking a Music Director for our summer camp production of Annie Jr. for students in grades 3-9 at Newton North High School. The Music Director will deliver the program in collaboration with the production Director. Together, they are responsible for creating and implementing the program curriculum, facilitating the rehearsal process, and general student supervision and support. Full consideration will be given to candidates from historically underrepresented and marginalized communities. The program will run M-F between June 28th-July 29th 2022 (starting Tuesday 6/28 and excluding July 4th) with final performances on 7/28 and 7/29. Essential Job Duties: - Actively work to support NCE’s mission and values - Attend trainings and staff meetings as needed - Communicate and collaborate with the show Director and Technical Director - Facilitate the vocal portion of auditions - Provide performance coaching to leads and ensemble members in collaboration with the director - Accompany all rehearsals and final performances on the piano - Lead vocal exercises, coach solos and supervise sectional rehearsals - In collaboration with the Director, prepare any materials necessary for the program, including preparing and garnering approval for a materials budget if applicable, and providing appropriate receipts for reimbursement - Prepare classroom space before class, if applicable - Teach and attend rehearsals on the agreed upon dates, covering the course material agreed upon with the program coordinator, in an engaging way - Arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of class and stay until the last student leaves - Manage and supervise students during class; use positive reinforcement and non-punitive techniques for behavior - Promptly report any difficulties or issues, including student difficulties that have come to your attention, to the Camp Director, Assistant Director and NCE Program Coordinator - Share all communications sent to students with NCE staff - Support students with special needs as communicated by NCE office staff - After class, return the classroom or other space used to its original condition - Stay abreast of your latest roster on Quicktools - Keep accurate attendance records. Follow and ensure class compliance with all NCE and Newton Department of Public Health safety guidelines and procedures - Respond and adjust based on student and Program Coordinator feedback Compensation: 35/hr This is a W-9 position. Work Environment & Physical Requirements: - Ability to quickly navigate around a school building and outdoor areas - Ability to lift up to 35 lbs Required Qualifications: - 3+ years’ experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting - Strong background in relevant content area & child development (preferred degree in Theater, Music and/or Education) - Experience music directing a full length musical with young people - Sufficient piano playing skills to accompany the full production - An inclusive mindset and enthusiasm for the content area - Commitment to connecting with students of all backgrounds - Ability to work engagingly with all levels of experience, making theater accessible to performers of all levels and abilities using thoughtful teaching strategies. - Positive student evaluations - Responsible, reliable individual who takes program delivery seriously - Excellent references - Clean CORI/SORI/fingerprint background check - *Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required for this position* - The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, creative, and highly collaborative with time management and organizational skills along with excellent presentation and verbal communication skills.
