Groton Hill Music Center is one of the most ambitious cultural projects in New England - a world- class education and performance center on a stunning 110-acre landscape in Groton, MA. Our school is seeking a part-time Guitar Instructor to teach students of all ages and abilities, including young beginners, on Saturdays. The position begins on a weekly basis on September 10, and should also include ad hoc summer teaching in 2022 at our facility in Littleton, MA (to close at the end of August), pending the instructor’s and students’ availability. The position involves teaching private lessons to guitar and ukulele students of all ages and ability levels, and small groups of students ages 5-7 in our weekly 45-minute Beginner classes. Opportunities to lead chamber, jazz, rock, and/or other types of ensembles may also be available either later in the school year or in subsequent years. Please note: this is an in-person position. PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Indian Hill Music faculty members are responsible for: 1) inspiring and sharing their love of music with their students; 2) setting a high bar for students’ levels of technical skill and musicality; 3) clearly communicating expectations and working toward shared goals; and 4) advocating for their students to engage in additional Indian Hill Music programs to enhance their musical development, their commitment to their studies, and the joy they receive from making music with others. Indian Hill offers many ancillary benefits to our faculty members, including a variety of paid professional performance opportunities and funding for professional development (by application). Regular weekly teaching throughout the school year is required, as is attendance at an annual faculty meeting in the fall and the completion of occasional administrative tasks, including timely and responsive communication by phone and email. Timeliness and reliability, as well as strong communication practices with both students/families and school staff, are essential. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Ideal candidates should have a degree in music as well as a minimum of three years of teaching experience, and must be comfortable working with students of all ages and ability/experience levels on both guitar and ukulele. Group teaching experience is a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required - Must be able to inspire and motivate students to deepen their investments in their music studies. - Strong verbal and written communication skills, and a willingness to proactively communicate with student families and our staff, is required.
