Brookline Music School (BMS) seeks a Teaching Artist in GUITAR, with versatility in styles ranging from classical to jazz, rock, pop, and folk. A specialty or background in Roots music is preferred. Applicants must be comfortable teaching private students of varied abilities, experience levels, and goals, ranging in age from 6 years to adult. Teaching takes place at our main Kennard House location and at select Brookline Public School locations. Ability and willingness to teach beginning ukulele is appreciated, but not required to apply.
The ideal candidate will have a proven record teaching guitar a range of ages and levels, and will be passionate about growing a studio through solid pedagogy, diligent lesson planning, and encouraging students toward performance opportunities and musical experiences beyond private lessons (recitals, ensembles, workshops). Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential to representing the school to our students and their families. An undergraduate degree in guitar performance is required; a graduate degree or the equivalent—demonstrated through teaching and performing experience—is preferred. The ideal candidate will have availability to begin teaching in June 2019 and to continue into the following school year and beyond. BMS seeks a minimum 2-year commitment to the faculty.
Applicants should send a cover letter, résumé, and a list of references with email and phone contact information to email@example.com with the subject line: “Teaching Artist, Guitar”. References should include at least two current or recent students (or parents thereof). Candidates should be prepared to give a remote teaching demonstration (via Zoom or Google Meet) with one or two students, and to perform a short solo selection (4-8 minutes total) of the applicant’s choosing. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Review of applicants will begin immediately.
