String Orchestra Director
Moses Brown is a 236-year old co-educational independent day school enrolling 750 students nursery through twelfth grade. A Friends school, MB exists to inspire children to reach their full intellectual and spiritual potential. We engage students in a rich academic curriculum, a broad offering of arts and athletics, and a daily life rooted in the Quaker values of community, equality, and service. The primary responsibility of this part-time position is to direct lower, middle, and upper school String Orchestra Ensembles. The ability to teach Advanced Placement Music Theory is desirable. The String Orchestra Director will be expected to create, organize and direct age appropriate ensemble and chamber performance opportunities for students on and off campus. A willingness to collaborate with department colleagues, to embrace technology in the classroom, to foster a love of music in all ages and abilities, and to use music to strengthen community is essential. Note: Currently, Moses Brown School is planning for a return to campus for fall classes. But, like all schools, the ongoing pandemic has created some uncertainty in terms of both enrollment and educational delivery models. We are proceeding with searches to fill a number of vacant positions for next year and will follow our search process as fully as we can; we look forward to meeting you. Given the uncertainties, however, we want all candidates to know that we will likely will not finalize any new hires until early July. We anticipate having enough information at that time to finalize our staffing needs for the fall. Qualifications: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution. Two to five years of teaching experience is preferred, although not a requirement for application. We seek candidates who are passionate about their desire to teach, advise, and learn from high school students, and candidates who are eager to embrace and forward the Quaker mission of the school.
