This position is located a Spanish/English dual lanaguage school, so candidates who are bilingual and biliterate in Spanish are highly preferred.

REPORTS TO: Principal/Headmaster
Teach: Band and Music
Planning a comprehensive music program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students;
Ability to accompany elementary general music choral performances through basic guitar or piano accompaniment
Provide both small and large group instrumental brass, woodwind and percussion instruction through planning, implementing, and assessing.
Prepare students for multiple school/community ensemble performances
Engage in the 7 Forms of Bias Instructional Materials Protocol to examine song bank for bias
Maintain inventory of band instruments and sheet music library
Demonstrate successful teaching approaches in elementary general music approaches including Orff, First Steps/Conversational Solfege, Gordon Learning Theory or Kodály
Strength in brass or woodwind family
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:
Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Music (All Levels).
Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and "Highly Qualified" according to NCLB.
Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching established by the Boston Public Schools as outlined above.
Education: Bachelors degree
Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:
Experience teaching in urban schools.
