Faculty Opening - Beginner Group Strings Instructor(s) Position: Part time Pay: $50 Location: Indian Hill Music, 36 King Street, Littleton, MA Start date: Immediate Indian Hill Music School, a community music school in Littleton, MA with a faculty of 70+ professional teaching artists, has has a related group of openings, beginning in September, for one or more part-time Group String Instructors. All of the teaching will occur at public schools in our region (see below). Tuesdays: Longsjo Middle School 98, Academy St., Fitchburg, MA Four to five periods during the school day 40-75 minutes per period Classes grouped by grade level Thursdays: Memorial Middle School, 615 Rollstone St., Fitchburg, MA Four to five periods during the school day 40-75 minutes per period Classes grouped by grade level Any weekday: Fitchburg High School, 140 Arn-How Farm Rd, Fitchburg, MA One 90-minute mixed-instrument afterschool class High school new and continuing players plus 7th and 8th grade continuing players Any weekday: Two sites: Page Hilltop Elementary School, 115 Washington St, Ayer, MA Lura A. White Elementary School, 34 Lancaster Rd, Shirley, MA One 45-minute afterschool class at each school Students are beginners in grades 4 and 5 Scheduled on one day with 30 minutes between the two classes, to allow for the 10-minute drive plus setup/breakdown at each site Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays: Groton-Dunstable Regional Middle School, 344-346 Main St, Groton, MA September through December: Two 45-minute afterschool classes: one for grades 4-5, the other for grades 6-8 January through May: Two 45-minute afterschool classes, mixed grades 4-8: one for beginners and one for continuing students Please note that paid attendance at an “instrument petting zoo” plus two performances per school year is also required for each program. Student outcomes evaluations are also conducted as a tool for measuring student progress. Indian Hill Music faculty members are responsible for: 1) inspiring and sharing their love of music with their students; 2) setting a high bar for students’ levels of technical skill and musicality; 3) clearly communicating expectations and working toward shared goals; and 4) advocating for their students to engage in additional Indian Hill Music programs, as appropriate, to deepen their musical development and their commitment to their studies. Indian Hill offers many ancillary benefits to our faculty members, including a variety of paid professional performance opportunities and funding for professional development (by application). Regular weekly teaching throughout the school year is required, as is attendance at an annual September faculty meeting and the completion of occasional clerical tasks including reporting of hours taught for payroll purposes. Timeliness and reliability, as well as strong communication practices with both students/families and school staff, are essential. Qualifications: Ideal candidates should have a degree in music and a minimum of three years of teaching experience, as well as proficiency on violin and experience working with beginning players.
