Position Summary:
River Valley Charter School is currently seeking a kind and creative Music Teacher who is responsible for teaching general music to students in grades 1 - 6. The position is part-time for the remainder of this school year (January 3, 2022 - June 14, 2023), however future full-time employment is possible. The ideal candidate is passionate about cultivating a warm, welcoming, and creative environment in the music classroom, and is committed to our school’s mission to inspire students to be creative problem solvers and critical thinkers who make a positive difference in the world. Features of a RVCS music classroom include:
- Small class size, by grade level (14-18 students)
- Focus on enjoyment and appreciation of music through singing, moving to music, and playing instruments
- Marimbas, drums, fiddles, and ukuleles!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research and create music curriculum and lessons that support the development of the whole child
- Plan, rehearse, and lead 2 Music Share performances per year (One for grades 1-3, one for grades 4-6)
- Collaborate with other Specialists and classroom teachers to enhance student growth and engagement
- Establish a positive relationship with school staff and family communities
- Participate in evaluation process for student engagement and demonstration of learning (Progress Reports three times per year)
Work Period: Remainder of School Year (January 3 - June 14, 2023)
Daily Hours: 11:00 - 3:00, Monday - Thursday
Total Hours: Total hours: 16
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated passion for music and inspiring a love of music in children
- Bachelor’s degree in education, music, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Orff and World Music Drumming and Marimba training preferred
- O’Connor Method for Violin Training preferred
- Instrumental skills including piano or guitar
- Experience planning concerts and events
- At least two years of classroom teaching experience
- Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills
- A collaborative, positive, and professional manner
- An understanding of approaches to learning and differentiated instruction
- Experience planning concerts and events
- Knowledge of the Montessori philosophy of education
- A commitment to inclusion, equity, and social justice
