The Mount Kenya Academy (MKA) is seeking a teacher to direct its strings program (now in its 12th year). MKA is a well-established co-educational boarding school for 1st-12th grade students in Nyeri, Kenya (www.mountkenyaacademy.com). This 1-2 year position can begin as early as September 1, 2018 (start of new term) or as late as January 15, 2019 (start of new term). The teaching contract runs for one year from the start date, with the option to renew at the end of the year. A monthly salary, furnished on-campus housing, and (multiple) airfare to/from Kenya are provided. Duties include teaching all violin, viola and cello lessons for students in grades 3 through 12, conducting two student orchestras, and preparing students for national music exams (ABRSM).
The candidate should be a string player with (A) a music education degree or (B) a performance degree with teaching experience in a school setting. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, able to work independently, organized, comfortable working with students of all ages, and experienced teaching beginning students.
