Brookline Music School (BMS) seeks a Teaching Artist in GUITAR - beginning June 2021. Applicants must be comfortable teaching private students of varied abilities, experience levels, and goals, ranging in age from 6 years to adult. BMS is currently operating remotely; this position may begin with hybrid or remote instruction in Summer 2021, with a likely transition to in-person instruction to happen in Summer or Fall 2021. In-person teaching takes place at our main Kennard House location and at select Public Schools of Brookline locations. QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will have a proven record teaching a range of ages and levels, and will be passionate about growing a studio through solid pedagogy, diligent lesson planning, and encouraging students toward performance opportunities and musical experiences beyond private lessons (recitals, ensembles, workshops). The ideal candidate also will display a versatility in styles on acoustic, classical, and electric guitar, and familiarity with repertoire, techniques, and concepts from classical, jazz, blues, funk, pop, rock, and folk traditions. The ability and desire to engage students’ creativity through improvisatory styles of music is preferred. Organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential to representing the school to our students and their families. An undergraduate degree in guitar performance is required; a graduate degree or the equivalent—demonstrated through teaching and performing experience—is preferred. Ability and willingness to teach beginning ukulele is a plus. The ideal candidate will have availability to begin teaching in June 2021 and to continue into the following school year and beyond. BMS seeks a minimum 2-year commitment to the faculty at least two days per week, one of which is Saturday.
